Christmas is always a special time of year, and for many of Absolute’s friends, Christmas 2010 will be a year to remember - because of people like you. Your generosity and thoughtfulness helped to make our 2010 Christmas Hamper Delivery a huge success. Each home that received their hamper was one that was filled with thankfulness and each gift was put to great use.
In Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Haiti, we were able to bring gifts made possible by you - and together, we were able to remind each family, home, and children’s home that they are remembered. Through your generosity, they were reminded that we believe in their future. Thank you.

- Dad - Elic (32)
- Mom - Bernarda (32)
- Their Daughter - Luis Arely (3)
- Other family members - Elic’s brother
Life has not been easy for Elic and Bernarda. Bernarda was born with a disability and one of her arms does not have a wrist or hand, making life even more of a constant struggle to survive. Though she has this set back, it does not stop her determination to succeed in life. In their struggle to get ahead, Elic and Bernarda took a job in another state for a few months. While they were gone, someone raided their home, cut the locks, and stole what little possessions they had. They were left with nothing. A few of their neighbors have let them use some things to get by, but most of what they have does not belong to them. Elic’s brother also lives with them, sleeping in the little room on the dirt floor. Most of the time, both Elic and his brother work in the fields, making 90 to 110 pesos a day ($9 - $11 USD). It has been our privilege to be able to help this family with a new house and we are excited to be able to remind them through our actions that there are still good people in the world who believe in them and in their family’s future!

Once the school was built, the Mexican government furnished it with desks for the students, a desk for the teacher, and a white board.

This family just received their new house a week ago when we visited. They were all moved in already. You could see the weight that was on the father has really been lifted. He is so proud of his new home. The Gonzaga team set him up with a new business selling used clothes in the Puerto Plata market, where on his first two days of being open he sold 2000 Pesos worth of merchandise. This is a big step up from the 100 a day he would make selling sugar cane before!
This family actually has a safe place to live. The parents no longer have to worry about if the children will have a home to live in should there be any complications with their HIV/AIDS. Their home is dry and secure. The children have a place to say, “this is my house!”.
Elias hopes to keep a successful business in the market and keep his children in school. He hopes to continue to help other Haitians in his community.

Their new home has changed their lives in so many ways: they feel safe because the door can be locked, they are kept dry from flooding, and most of all, because of the second room that is being rented out, it is a source of income for them. Iris still has problems with her leg, and as a result, she can’t work. The boarder that stays with them provides a source of income that she desperately needs.
Iris loves having company over to her home and making them feel welcome there. She is focused now on making sure that Gustov finishes school and is able to get good employment. She also prays and believes that she will find a way for her leg to get better so she can go back to work.

This Hamper Has Been Delivered
David, his family, and all of the children they take care of are doing well, despite the desperate situation in Port au Prince at this time. They have been kept healthy and safe from the cholera epidemic, and they are working towards building a future for the children they are taking care of.
In Port au Prince, 170 gift bags were given out to the children in their homes, as well as in an additional orphanage. The bags were filled with items the kids both needed and wanted!
Because of your help, we were also able to hand out 500 bars of soap to cholera patients in a Port au Prince Cholera Clinic. It may seem like a simple gift, but it is a gift that can save lives.
Thank you!
Christmas season is often a difficult time of year, as work can become limited, and it can be tough for a family to provide for their basic needs. Thank you for giving generously, as it enables us to not only provide for this family, but to support an even greater need, giving hope and homes to many others just like them.

Francisco has had trouble having consistent work this past year. His company has been laying people off regularly. However, they have worked hard to be able to keep their children in school and this year he has been promised that he will be working 2 to 4 days per week. Fransisco is continuing to look after the cows as well.
Their new home has changed their lives a great deal. According to them, they have gone from one room to a whole house and that alone has changed their quality of life. Rain and weather don’t cause them to worry anymore, and their health is much better because of it.
Each day they pray to God, thanking Him for life and that their children are able to get an education. Your gift this Christmas served to remind them that they are not forgiven and that they can hope for the future.
