Volunteer Opportunities:

Absolute is able to run successfully by drawing on a large volunteer base. Our volunteers come from many different areas, and at many different ages! Some are members of our road teams, others are co-op students from local high schools, and a few are even our close family or friends! Whatever their involvement, all of our volunteers play a vital role in effecting positive change across our nation.

There are many significant ways that you can volunteer with Absolute on a full-time, part-time or occasional basis. Some of our regular volunteer positions are listed below, but please check back often, as we will post new opportunities as the needs arise.

Absolute Building (Hamilton, ON):

Absolute operates out of one of the most historic buildings in the city of Hamilton. Formerly known as the old Picton tavern, Absolute’s headquarters is a 125 year old building, which houses a dormitory for men and women, offices, and internet café. We have come a long way since purchasing a boarded up building in 2004, but are still in the process of remodeling our space for more offices, classrooms, and a student lounge area. If you are available in the Hamilton area, and are skilled in an applicable trade, let us know, and we’ll put you to work!

Absolute Office:

Paperwork can seem trivial in the middle of a road tour or Hero Holiday trip, but without putting in hours of administration, none of our programs would run smoothly. We can always use extra help from those who are particularly gifted in this area, or even those who are looking to gain experience working for a non-profit organization. For more information on our current placement options, please contact us.

Hero Holiday Volunteer:

Perhaps you are unable to go on a Hero Holiday this year, but would like to help out in some way. Or maybe you are coming on one of our trips, and can arrive early! Either way, it takes many people doing weeks of groundwork here in Canada to make each Hero Holiday a success. For more information, contact our Hero Holiday department.

Road Team Volunteer:

We do allow people to join a road tour as a volunteer with a 4 month commitment, beginning in September or January. We encourage everyone to first consider our School of Leadership, but understand that some people may have circumstantial reasons why they are unable to commit to a 9 month program. That said, we cannot guarantee that there will be room on a team at all times, as our first priority is to fill our teams with the students from our School of Leadership. Our volunteers have the option of living in our housing at Absolute (approx. $300/month for a shared dorm room), or setting up their own arrangements in the local area. Please contact us for more info.

Online Chat Operator:

Through this extension of our High School Assemblies, Absolute offers not just a message, but a real support service to facilitate student response and communication after the show. Students are able to sign in on to our live chat line where volunteer staff are available to provide information, advice and crisis support. This is truly worthwhile, as it allows us to maintain contact with some of the students who need encouragement and affirmation the most, and we are actually able to help influence them towards positive change. This program has been running for a two year period and thousands of students have utilized this service.

We need two kinds of volunteers, those who can commit to a full-time, 2 hour shift every week, (within the time frame of Tuesday-Thursday, 3-9pm), and those who can take occasional shifts when we have a cancellations or open time slots. If you would like to help out in this way, please download an application, and send it to our office for consideration.
